Perfect for remote offices, departmental
environments, and as a complementary system for data center
environments, the Sun Fire V880 server excels in supporting an extensive
array of applications, including Internet and database, e-commerce, and
ERP software. This rack-mountable, deskside unit combines an advanced
set of reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) features and
supports two-to-eight processors, an integrated Fibre Channel disk
subsystem, and a maximum of 64 GB of main memory for exceptional
performance. The Sun Fire V880 server is binary-compatible with the
entire line of Sun desktop and server systems, as well as their
applications.
Key Applications:
This UltraSPARC processor-based server is suitable for Internet and
database applications, including e-commerce and enterprise resource
planning (ERP) software, messaging servers, and compute-intensive
applications.
Key Specifications:
- Two-to-eight UltraSPARC III
processors.
- A maximum of 64 GB of main memory.
- Integrated Fibre Channel disk
subsystem with optional multipathing to all disks. This subsystem
supports a maximum of twelve, 10,000 RPM 73 GB disks for a total
capacity of 876 GB.
- Hot-swap PCI slots, disks, power
supplies, and cooling fan trays.
Key Benefits:
- Binary compatibility for applications
running on previous UltraSPARC processor-based systems.
- Multipathing capability to storage
subsystems and network interfaces.
- Data center-class reliability,
availability, and serviceability.
- Extensive security features.
Requirements:
The Sun Fire V880 server requires a minimum configuration of two
processors and 4 GB of memory, and requires the Solaris 8 10/01
Operating Environment, or later. Although it is possible to boot from an
external storage array via the network or locally connected storage, at
least one FC-AL backup boot disk is highly recommended.
